So it seems that a lot of people don’t want to do just quests, but want to do the dungeon quests as well and I thought that I might as well do a guide for those of you that plan to do mix leveling of quests + dungeon quests.
I used a ilvl 680 Monk for the purpose of this guide. I didn’t use any professions, so bare in mind that you can get some extra xp if you have professions. There are quests that reward xp for professions, but chances are you might not be able to do them without having to buy stuff from the Auction House.
Also I’ve done only 4-5 Order Hall quests. I didn’t do the 2nd/3rd/4th Artifact quests.
I had no completed quests prepared from Warlords of Draenor.
Basically I did it with a fresh ilvl 680 Monk without any advantages!
Anyway here is the route that you should follow if you plan on doing quests + dungeon quests.
First pick Highmountains and follow the Highmountain guide to clear the WHOLE zone. YES you need to do all the quests in the zone.
Once you are done with Highmountain, go back to your Order Hall and pick the next zone which will be Val’Sharah.
Once you get to Val’Sharah you have 2 options. Either do all the quests by following the Val’sharah guide(I recommend this) or you can do the quests only to step 33(including step 33).
Once you are done with Val’sharah head back to your Order Hall and pick the next zone which will be Stormheim. Follow the guide and complete the zone till step 38(including step 38)
Once you are done with Stormheim head back to your Order Hall and pick Azsuna. Once you arrive at Azsuna do all the quests by following the guide up to step 37(including step 37)
By this point you will have all 4 dungeon quests. I recommend that you continue doing Azsuna and finish the zone by following the Azsuna guide, otherwise you will be short on xp even after you do all 4 dungeons.
If you did the whole Val’sharah you can skip 1 of the dungeons. I recommend skipping Halls of Valor because it’s the longest and in my opinion toughest dungeon on normal difficulty from the 4 dungeons.
Here is a rough breakthrough on what I got after doing the steps.
Doing the whole Highmountain got me to level 103(200k xp done to 104)
Val’sharah doing it only to step 31 got me up to level 104(500k xp done to 105). If you finish the zone you will get roughly 300k more xp.
Stormheim doing it only to step 38 got me to level 106(390k xp done to 107).
Azsuna doing it only to step 37 got me to level 108(220k xp done to 109).
Finishing Azsuna got me almost to level 109!
The 4 dungeon each rewards roughly 200k xp give or take, so from that you can see that you will be short on some xp. That’s why I suggest you finish up Azsuna and Val’sharah.
It might not be a bad idea just to be safe to also do the quests in Stormheim from step 38 to 43.
So from the information above you can make your own decision on how you will level. Also you don’t have to go to the zones as I mentioned them. Instead for example you can start with Stormheim then go Azsuna>Val’sharah>Highmountain. Basically you can choose in what order you do them.
Here is what I’ll do.
I’ll do the whole Highmountain
Do the whole Val’sharah
Do the whole Azsuna
Once I start Stormheim I’ll start queueing up for the 3 dungeons I have quests. I assume by the time I get to step 38 I’ll see if I need to do more quests/Halls of Valor dungeon or not.
Here is some info on the dungeons that you might find useful:
Neltharion’s Lair – Took me 20 minutes with a random group. We had 2 level 110 in the group, but generally it’s an easy and fast instance. We could have saved time if we had skipped the rare that was in a side part of the dungeon. We could have saved probably 2-3 minutes if we had skipped it.
Halls of Valor – Took me 30 minutes with a random group. There were no level 110, but there were obviously at least 2 people who knew what they were doing. Even then 3 or 4 times people died which slowed the process, but even if they hadn’t died it still would have taken us probably about 25 minutes or so.
Eye of Azshara – Took me roughly 22 minutes with a random group. There was 1 level 110 + at least 2 more people who knew the dungeon. We had 3 suicides + few unnecessary pulls so overall I assume if you are with a decent group you can finish this dungeon i nabout 15-16 minutes.
Darkheart Ticket – So I’m not sure if I should even mention the try I had on this… There was a tank with 850 ilvl ++ gear and a 101 mage with mythic gear that did 400k burst damage on the last boss without heroism and what’s more we skipped 1 boss. It took us 11 minutes to finish the dungeon, so I assume if we had done the skipped (3rd) boss it would have taken us roughly 15 minutes to finish the dungeon, but again we had a bit of an unfair advantange. So I would say a regular group would take roughly 16-20 minutes to finish this dungeon.
On the screenshot above you can see the play time I needed to hit level 110.
Few things that I should mention.
First it took me 44 minutes to do the Artifact weapon quest. Different class/spec take different time. Some might take 15 minutes other like the WW monk might take 30-35 minutes(it took me 44 minutes because I was distracted… DON’T BE DISTRACTED WHEN DOING YOUR ARTIFACT WEAPON. READ WHAT IT ASKS YOU TO DO.) The Artifact quest gave me a total of 130k xp, so you can see it’s a massive time sink with no real benefit.. For 30-35 minutes I can get at least 55-60% of a level done.
Second there was a bugged quest where I lost probably 10-15 minutes just staying doing nothing.
Third I spent an extra probably 10-15 minutes flying around because I was trying to optimize the leveling route. If I follow my guide now I will save those extra 10-15 minutes I spent flying.
Forth to top things off 200k xp before I was about to hit level 110, the beta servers started lagging like hell, so that wasted me another 5 minutes.
I’m mentioning this, so that you can get a better idea on how long it would have taken me if I was following the guide. Roughly it would have taken me 9 hours and 30 minutes with the Artifact weapon quest included. As I said different classes/specs have different lenght to their artifact quests, so if I was another class it might have taken me 9 hours and 10-15 minutes.
Also 1 final thing that needs to be reminded. The character started with item level 680!
If I started with let’s say item level 720 I’m quite confident that I could shave off at least 1 hour, 1 hour and a half from the time it took me to hit level 110…
If I was leveling a ranged ilvl 740+ character with the Heirloom trinket then I wouldn’t be surprise if I managed to do it in 7 hours.
